FLOWER MARKET
Flower Market is CJ Hendry’s whimsical exploration of beauty, abundance, and sensory joy — an immersive art installation that transforms public space into a lush, dreamlike field of oversized plush blooms. Visitors are invited to wander through hundreds of fabric flowers, pick their favorites, and curate their own bouquets, blurring the line between art installation and interactive playground.
At its heart, Flower Market celebrates the simple pleasure of color, texture, and human connection. Each bloom is handcrafted from vibrant fabric, transforming a fleeting natural object into a lasting, huggable artwork. Every visitor receives one flower for free, while additional flowers can be purchased for $5 each — a playful nod to both accessibility and collectibility, core themes throughout Hendry’s practice.
The first Flower Market opened in 2024 on Roosevelt Island in New York City, drawing thousands of visitors and overwhelming demand that led to its relocation to Industry City, Brooklyn. The second installment blossomed in 2025 beneath the iconic skylights of Rockefeller Center, turning one of Manhattan’s busiest plazas into a temporary garden of textile fantasy.
Each version expands Hendry’s ongoing fascination with scale, materiality, and participation — inviting audiences not just to look, but to touch, take, and keep. Much like a real flower market, no two visits are ever the same. The installation evolves throughout the day as flowers are chosen, rearranged, and carried home by guests — a living artwork shaped by those who move through it. Flower Market is at once a meditation on ephemerality and a celebration of joy: soft, surreal, and impossible to resist.
